Advertising’s Multi-Billion-Dollar Local Impact

Did you know that advertising generated over $61 billion in economic activity in D.C. in 2021? The impact is even greater in Maryland and Virginia! Advertising is a significant driver of the economy, but it occasionally comes under threat of taxation when legislators are looking for new sources of revenue. To ensure our industry continues to prosper, we need to remind our elected officials to keep advertising tax-deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense.

It’s easy to help out! Look up the email inbox of your Senators and Representatives and share the economic impact one-pager for your locale (linked below)! Learn more by visiting AAF’s Government Relations page or by contacting Clark Rector, AAF’s EVP of Government Relations (crector@aaf.org).

Meet LaQuita Howard, Ad 2 DC Chair

LaQuita Howard is the Marketing Manager for the League of Women Voters, supporting all communications needs for the People Powered Fair MapsTM campaign. The Texas native moved to DC January of 2012 to attend the Illustrious Howard University where she earned a degree in Advertising. When she is not working she indulges in reading, painting, writing, meditating, and dancing to Beyonce in the mirror. She also enjoys spending quality time with her friends and loved ones.

LaQuita hopes to grow Ad 2 DC, which supports ad professionals ages 32 and under with specialized early-career programming and leadership opportunities. She is especially interested to bring back the Ad 2 DC Public Service Committee, which provides a complete pro-bono marketing and advertising campaign for a local nonprofit.
