Graphic Designer

Position Description: 

Reporting to the manager of marketing, the graphic designer is a member of the team responsible for the design of Newseum and Newseum Institute print and digital collateral. The graphic designer will handle the detailed execution of numerous projects that support various elements of the organization’s business — including: special events, fundraising, education and the destination itself — in a fast-paced work environment.


  • Producing print, web and out-of-home advertising creative promoting the museum experience and the organization’s various business units
  • Designing museum and Institute informational collateral, including: brochures, visitor guides, one-sheets, special-event programs and promotional displays
  • Maintain the organization’s visual resources archive
  • Participating in, and contributing to, various strategy and creative sessions
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelors degree in Graphic Design or related studies, and three years of related work experience
  • Proficient in current Adobe CS applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat)
  • Excellent skill in design conceptualization, corporate/product branding, typography and layout, with experience following detailed brand style guides
  • In-depth knowledge of artwork development and production processes
  • Strong organizational and project management skills — capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting assigned deadlines
  • Ability to execute design direction and be open to feedback
  • Good project, archiving and file management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word and Outlook
  • Experience designing for brands in the attractions, tourism or entertainment field a plus
  • Experience coordinating with an advertising agency a plus
