AAF DC hosted the American Advertising Awards-DC gala on Friday, March 24 and presented its 2017 ADDY® Awards, recognizing advertising creative excellence. This annual reception and awards presentation was attended by about 350 area advertising and media professionals.
The AAF DC received over 500 different entries from 86 agencies, design firms, in-house marketing departments, freelancers, interactive firms, production companies and PR firms. Additionally, AAF DC received over 40 entries from local schools and universities. A panel of 9 judges—general market and interactive—convened to review and score the entries based on creativity, originality and creative strategy. Winning entries were honored with a total of 50 Gold ADDY® Awards and 65 Silver ADDY® Awards along with Best of Category and Best of Show Awards.
The Best of Show Award is determined by a consensus of the judges. Best of Category awards are given to the entries receiving the highest score in each category.
The evening’s top award, Best of Show, went to GMMB for their “Hillary for America – Mirrors” spot, a thirty-second commercial created for the Hillary for America campaign.
The Best of Category -Collateral Award was given to Akseizer Design Group for “Texas Jack’s Branding” a set of branded collateral and packaging done for Texas Jack’s Barbecue.
Best of Category-Out-of-Home was awarded to Eighty2degrees for the “Grand Opening Campaign,” a campaign done for the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the recently-opened Smithsonian Institution museum.
Best of Category-Interactive was presented to LMO Advertising for their online/interactive campaign “Revisionist History,” created for Panopoly Media’s podcast Revisionist History.
Rosetta Stone took home the most awards, with a total of 12 (6 Gold ADDY® Awards, 6 Silver ADDY® Awards). Other top awardees included HZ with 11 ADDY® Awards (3 Gold and 8 Silver) and WHITE64 with 8 ADDY® Awards (3 Gold, and 5 Silver).
The American Advertising Awards Competition is a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), its chapters, and districts. With 40,000 entries nationwide, the ADDY® Awards Competition is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition for creative excellence. Winners from the AAF DC ADDY® Awards will go on to compete against other winning entries from District Two, which includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Washington, DC.
